The European Social Enterprise Monitor is the largest study on social enterprises in Europe bringing more than 30 countries together to highlight the contribution social enterprises make to Europe’s society and economy. The European Social Enterprise Monitor helps decision makers in governments, finance providers, research and business support to better understand the experiences of social enterprises. Through the responses to the Monitor, these decision makers can take steps to address the barriers social enterprises face and cultivate more supportive ecosystems across Europe.

The lack of data on social enterprises is one of the main barriers preventing better policies from being created and more tailored support from being provided. Having more knowledge and a better understanding of social enterprises means that funding, as well as EU and national policies, can become better adjusted and more responsive to the needs of (aspiring) social entrepreneurs.

Over 2,000 social entrepreneurs have shared their experiences in the last edition of the European Social Enterprise Monitor and their voices are already having an impact across Europe with governments, educators and policy makers. This is just the beginning.

The ESEM project is managed at the European level by Euclid Network, in collaboration with Social Entrepreneurship Network Germany (SEND) and with the support of a Research Board composed of leading academic experts in the social enterprise field.

At the national level, country teams work together to provide locally-grounded expertise from their national contexts on survey development and data cleaning, and lead survey promotion and outreach. Partners Albania for Change and Development is the country team for Albania.
